In the wilderness, he dumps the poor girl by a stream; as she desperately drinks from it, Massai ties a rawhide tether to a tree and before dragging Nalinle away and tying her hands behind her back. He then ties her ankles to the tether so that the water is tantalizingly close, but out of reach while he goes off to commit sabotage against cavalry forces close by.
