In this extended clip, Kyōko Kishida plays a widow forced to stay in a shack at the bottom of a steep sand pit and dig sand for a village in exchange for food and water. She's soon joined by an entomologist who becomes trapped by the villagers. Later in the film, he gags her and ties her up with cloth scraps to use as a bargaining chip to try and force the villagers to haul him back up out of the pit with the rope winch they use to lower supplies. The attempt fails, with the villagers merely hauling him up part way before dropping him. He returns to the cabin and un-gags the girl and begins to question her about their rather bleak situation. He eventually unties her.
