The department is saddled with a nosy self-righteous reporter, Terri O'Brien (played by Jean Simmons) who gets herself too involved for her own goods when the guys are called upon to solve the kidnapping of a scientist's children. In the first bit, Jo Pruden plays the scientist's daughter Emily Longworth who along with her brother are recovered safely bound and over-gagged inside a van on a deserted stretch of beach. Later, Terri goes a-snooping around an isolated cabin and is immediately discovered and identified by the kidnappers. She's kept tied up and gagged on the couch as the crooks pack their belongings for a trip to Hong Kong with some stolen microfilm, with plans to leave the woman in the house to starve to death. But 5-0 is on the scene and busts them; however, before Miss O'Brien is rescued, McGarrett gives her a piece of his mind while she's still gagged, so he won't be interrupted.
