In this clip from two episodes of the rather convoluted old serial, Vera Strang (played by Viva Tattersall) is hand-gagged and captured by The Countess, who is desperate to save the man she loves who also happens to work for the malevolent Whispering Shadow, a mysterious underworld figure who uses a death ray device to punish traitors. Convinced Vera is the Shadow's daughter, she's kidnapped her and has her tied to a chair in her room. As the Shadow begins and ominous warning broadcast to Mr. Dupont she likewise warns him that she has Vera prisoner, with one of his explosive devices poised over her heart. Vera tries to give her location before she's securely hand-gagged by the woman. Our hero dashes to rescue Vera. The Shadow scoffs at the Countess, and there's two terrifying blasts.....
