Kristen Stewart plays Snow White in this darker, more Gothic incarnation of the classic fairy tale. During the opening moments of the film Ravenna (soon to be queen Ravenna, our lead baddie) is found by the king's soldiers chained up barefoot inside a wagon following an epic battle with a "Dark Army".
Later, having escaped the wrath of Queen Ravenna (who needs her heart to permanently retain her fading power and youth), Snow White is chased by the queen's henchmen as well as a hired huntsman who has changed sides after a confrontation with the same men. He finally catches the fleeing girl and hand gags her securely to keep her from alerting their pursuers. Later, the duo are set set upon, captured, bound and hung from their heels over a tree limb by a group of dwarfs, who have no love for the Huntsman at all. After threatening to leave them to dangle for the soldiers to find and otherwise making sport of their fine captives, the leader of the group senses Snow White's power and purpose and has them cut down and they are escorted to safety as another group of Queen Ravenna's mercenaries close in on them.
Lastly, during the final battle with Queen Ravenna, Snow White is hand-gagged as she's compelled to watch her soldiers get slaughtered by the Queen's monsters.
*It's good to know Kristen is capable of more than one facial expression. I liked this movie for its imagery as well as the icy evil presence of the Queen played by Charlize Theron. I think I've found my Halloween costume for this year.*
