Frances McDormand plays lawyer Julie Hastings in this tale of a brilliant but unstable scientist trying to develop an artificial skin who is burned horribly and presumed dead after some mobsters destroy his lab. Toward the end of the film, Julie is brought out handcuffed and gagged to a hi-rise construction site, where her kidnapper is surprised to see his boss Durrant still alive and kicking after a fiery helicopter crash. High above the crook tricks "Durrant" and reveals him as Darkman, and so the final fight to the death commences. During the pitched battle, Julie takes a fall and finds herself dangling from some pipes by her handcuffs and so our scarred anti-hero must save her.
