Son of Zorro is a Republic film serial directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet and Fred C. Brannon. George Turner starred as a descendant of the original Zorro in 1860s United States.
In this serial, a man returning home after having fought in the Civil War discovers that corrupt politicians have taken over the county and are terrorizing and shaking down the citizens. He dons the costume of his ancestor, the famous Zorro and sets out to bring them to justice.
Son of Zorro was budgeted at $156,745 although the final negative cost was $119,343. It was the cheapest Republic serial of 1947 and was filmed between June and July 20th 1946 under the working title Zorro Strikes Again. This was one of only four 13-chapter serials to be released by Republic.
In this clip, Peggy Stewart plays Kate Wells, proprietor of the general store targeted by local baddies for an after hours robbery. Kate is briefly hand-gagged by Zorro outside the building and then returns to the store where the baddies grab her (off camera) and then leave her tied up, struggling and gagged over the mouth with a black cloth. our hero enters just after the dynamite fuse is lit at the safe and fight ensues. Toward the end, Zorro is left semi-conscious on the floor in harm's way as the dynamite explodes (Includes the cliffhanger resolution from chapter 4).
