With Mr. Monk stricken with a horrible cold, its up to his junior partner Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard) to solve the crime, after the search for a pizza delivery guy who paid back too much change turns into a murder investigation. Stuck inside the leading suspect's house, Nat makes a panicked phone call to Mr. Monk, but he has a call on another line, which turns out to be the suspect, who then neatly captures Natalie at knife-point. He takes her out to the recycling place to search for an incriminating pizza box with his fingerprints, wrists bound in front and gagged with duct tape. The gag is soon removed, and Mr. Monk's intensely fastidious precision makes the search even more daunting than before. Mr. Monk leaves his sick bed to help Natalie, and keeps the man occupied so the cops can arrive. Meanwhile, Natalie works herself loose and dumps a load of paper shred on top of the guy before he can break away.
