Linked to me by a contributor, in this extended clip from the holiday themed comedy, a burglar on the lam is forced to take a bickering, dysfunctional family hostage after a botched crime. In the first bit, Caroline Chasseur (Judy Davis) is caught at gunpoint and escorted from the supermarket by the crook. She and her husband are forced to drive back to their own house and afterward are both tied to chairs with bungee cords. The robber tries to make phone call to his lush of a partner, but the two captives won't quit arguing, and he hoses them down from the kitchen sink. Afterward he knocks them flat on their backs while still tied to their chairs. Later, they are left tied together face to face on a bed before being secured to the bedposts with some sheets. Their son turns up from military school and gets tied up as well.
Later in the film, the Christmas family dinner guests turn up and so the thief comes up with a scheme to masquerade as a family counselor. Things fall apart rapidly, and Rose Chasseur (Glynis Johns) has to be overpowered (marginally, tough old bird) and hand-gagged. Toward the end of the film, she and Connie Chasseur (Christine Baranski) are gagged and tied up in chairs with decorative ribbons as well as white tape. And then captive couple agree to be tied up together with curtain cords at the foot of the steps to slow down the cops who are in pursuit so our anti-hero can escape.
*HUGE clip. Be aware of it.*
