In this character origin movie, in 15th century Sweden a woman named Hope (actually the daughter of Satan) is accused of heresy and witchcraft, imprisoned and held in chains in a dungeon by a priest. There's she's visited by an imp dressed as a jester. He offers her an escape if she'll just honor her true father. She refuses and he leaves. She's summarily sentenced to burn at the stake, taken before the crowd, tied in place and set ablaze. Afterward, in the pits of Hell the jester demon demonstrates how things "could always be worse", and has some other demons string her up and whip her.
