In this flashback clip, Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) is stricken with a strange illness and turned over to psychiatric hospital. When she and the doctor are alone she attacks Banning and begins speaking in a strange tongue. Vanessa is carted off screaming by some orderlies, strapped into a straitjacket and forced to endure the "water treatment" as she's submersed into a tub of icy water, and then strapped and bound into her bed in her wet clothes. She's given an injection in the neck by the attending doctor, which knocks her unconscious. Afterward, she's seen shackled at the wrists to a wall as she's blasted with a high pressure water hose over and over. Later, she's seen strapped into chair, still bound with straitjacket and tightly gagged with a leather bit wrapped in gauze as her hair is shaved away for a modified trepanation / lobotomy procedure with a large hand-cranked drill.
