In this David Cronenberg horror tale, life inside a suburban hi-rise apartment complex is shttered after a scientist living in an apartment complex beats and strangles a girl (played by Felicia Shulman) tapes her mouth, then cuts her open on the dinner table and uses acid to destroy her internal organs,before killing himself with the same scalpel. While investigating, a doctor discovers that the scientist was doing experiments on the use of genetically engineered parasites as organ transplants. Eventually the entire population of the apartment complex are overtaken by the creatures, who can invade through any body opening, and are driven to breed.
Toward the end of the film, Nurse Forsythe (Lynn Lowry) is knocked out and gagged with a yellow rag by our hero, before being dragged up some stairs. The duo is overwhelmed and separated by a gang of the infected.
