Frank, Joe, and Nancy are at a detective's convention that's plagued with disappearances. Nancy Drew (Pamela Sue Martin) is called upon to deliver a ransom via a tourist tram passing throuth Universal Studios. As the ride is suddenly stopped inside a props building and the lights go dark, Nancy is attacked from behind by a man in a phantom of the Opera mask, hand-gagged and pulle from her seat. She's briefly sen being escorted along to an elevator by the phantom as well as a man in a security guard uniform.
